Spoken Spells and Written Rules is inspired by the concept of a ritualistic or magical circle, enveloped in layers of mystical writings, symbolic iconography, and ancient patipembas. These elements intertwine to create a visual language of power and intention, evoking the sacred geometry and energies of ritual practice. The work invites viewers to step into a liminal space, where the boundaries between the mystical and the tangible blur, drawing on ancestral wisdom and the transformative power of symbols to ignite curiosity and reflection.

In my work, I employ intuitive lines and intricate patterning, creating simplified imagery that echoes the ritualistic and symbolic language of ancient icons. Through this process, I delve into meditative downloads—intangible flows of insight and emotion—distilling them into visually compelling, complex symbols. These icons serve as vessels of meaning, bridging the intuitive and the tangible, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where layers of understanding unfold.

The distinction between the symbolic downloads and the figurative paintings in my work lies in their intent and approach. The symbolic downloads are abstract and intuitive, serving as meditative distillations of complex emotions, ideas, and energies. These works are rooted in patterning and ritualistic imagery, creating icons that encapsulate meaning in a simplified, universal form.

In contrast, the figurative paintings are more narrative and representational, focusing on characters like the jaguars and Lady Rage to convey themes of strength, defiance, and identity. These pieces engage directly with the viewer through elements like shadowed auras and piercing eye contact, invoking a powerful emotional response.

Together, these approaches complement each other—the symbolic works explore the essence of emotions and archetypes, while the figurative pieces give those concepts a tangible, relatable presence. Both serve to create a dynamic interplay between the abstract and the personal, inviting viewers into a layered and multifaceted experience.
