The Architecture of Mycelium

I’m blessed to live and create art within the valley of the Barham River Apollo Bay on Gadubanud country. observing nature and how it all works in unison to form and maintain a perfectly balanced architecture inspires me daily. my latest body of works has been inspired by mycelium and the magic it in how it operates;  a network of fungal threads that lovingly nourishes,  regenerates and communicates a symbiotic relationship with plants and trees. This exact architecture and existence of balance is something that we as humans I feel is missing.  the mycelial network has more connections than our brain's neural pathways the network actually works much like our brains by using electrical impulses & electrolytes.

This concept took me deeper into nature and my environment which I am grateful I wanted to understand and observe this deep language and relationship.

I collected mushrooms for spore prints I played with inks lines and textures and observed the places I was finding them which gave me visuals of the mycelium networks once again reminding me how nature is so beautifully cocreated with us.

Books that inspired me greatly through this process were

Tree a life story by David Suzuki and Wayne Grady.

sand talk ‘by Tyson Yunkaporta.

ARTIST BIO

2006 attended Geelong Fine Arts School. 2007-2008 completed a Diploma of visual arts at RMIT Melbourne; majoring in sculpture & printmaking. My love of printmaking & mark-making grew from a trip to Japan in 2008, I was inspired by the concept of Wabi sabi a philosophy rooted in Zen Buddhism of finding beauty in all things that are simple, imperfect and impermanent. Over the years I have exhibited various works at local cafes & galleries and have been involved with arts projects for the Apollo Bay Music Festival & Winter Wild festival.

(RE)Emerging + Growing Female Artists Residency

local creative women of the GOR + Otways of all ages and cultural backgrounds to exhibit at the project space with a monthly placement residency. Wonderfully creative women for all sorts of reasons may find that their lives get put on hold or displaced and their creative practice is quite often the first thing that gets put on the back burner. 2023 is the year to reemerge with help and love. You can re-emerge and grow at any age and in any place. This is a safe nurturing space for experimentation and community. Welcome.
